my Macintosh history thus far

I've just finished watching Steve Job's Stanford commencement speech, and can't believe that Ive been using Apples since I was like 7 or 8years old; around 23years. So I thought I'd go through my memory and research the machines that I have used.

Beginning with primary school (?1989), I remember our computer lab was full of 512kes. My younger brother somehow manage to buy one from the school and we still have this machine stored somewhere at home.
In intermediate school our classroom was fortunate enough to have some Apple machines, these were used for writing essays, playing Lemmings and pong. I vividly remember the dot matrix printers that were connected to them. Think these may have been LCs.
During high school we had the privilege of using Macs for graphic design, desktop publishing and our art work; thanks to our art teacher Lee Morgan. This was around 1993, and was when i first started using Photoshop 2.0, Macromedia Freehand and Coreldraw. Throughout my 4 years in high school we must have gone through a few machines, but i do remember using a LC500, an imac G3 and a Power Mac.
My designs continued to be created on Macs when I entered university, as we only had Macs in our computer labs and in the studio. It was a privilege to have used such iconic machines such as an imac G3, a G3, a G4, and the G4 cube on a daily basis. Between 2001 and 2004 I only used PCs, as 3d modelling software (Solidworks, 3D Studio max etc) only run on Windows.
My reintroduction to Macs came when i started working for a small animation studio in Auckland where I used an imac (22"), this was a dream machine because the screen was so big that I literally had every tool bar opened. During this time I purchased a 14" ibookG4 because a virus had blown up my power unit to my Windows based PC.
In Japan, I've used a Mac Mini and various generations of Macbook Pros for designing. Next purchase, a Macbook Pro and iphone.
Thanks Steve for such great machines.

Pulp Magazine

I am saddened that one of my favourite magazines, Pulp was discontinued last year in September. Please click on the image for the article.

In regards to the article; I do agree that the fashion/culture magazine market in New Zealand is overly saturated, which is sad. However, like Lucyvonsturmer said, magazines immortalises peoples work. Digital media may be cost effective and eco-friendly, but it is so ephemeral. People collect magazines and have them on shelves as prized possessions. They may even be re-read, digital pages on the other hand are not likely to be re-read (this is the case with my design magazines).

Long live print media. Goodbye Pulp.

older and wiser, or just plain old?

So comes the end of another decade. For many of my friends it is a milestone. The end of our twenties. Some are married, some have children, some are still single. No matter which path we have chosen, to me it is the moments that is most important. Moments of happiness, sadness, of success, and failure. We learn and grow through these moments. I'm gonna start the year off by not wiping the slate clean, but by taking the moments I have experienced in the last decade and learn from them. Happy New Years everyone and all the best to you.
